Planning Center Giving

Free (≤10 donations/mo) + 2.15% + $0.30 cards

This is usually a fee question dressed up as a software question. Both let you start without a contract, both handle cards and bank gifts, and both will have you taking gifts online within days. What separates them is what each charges per gift, and whether you already live inside Planning Center.

If your treasurer has ever squinted at a processing statement and wondered where the money went, this page is for you.

Our verdict

On fees alone, Planning Center Giving wins, and it isn't close for bank gifts: a $500 ACH gift costs $0.30 there versus $5.30 at Tithe.ly, and card gifts run 2.15% + $0.30 against 2.9% + $0.30. The catch is the monthly subscription, which is free up to 10 donations a month and then climbs with your donation count, topping out at $239 for unlimited.

Tithe.ly makes more sense for a church that isn't on Planning Center and wants giving, an app and a website from one vendor, or a small congregation that wants to be live this week at $0 a month. If most of your giving comes in as larger bank transfers, run the math before you pick Tithe.ly; that 1% ACH fee is where it gets expensive. Church plants should also know Planning Center lets them apply for 12 months of Giving free.
